Resident Evil 4 was basically a Resi reboot and that was awesome. The key, I think, will be splitting and lowering the 'risk' for shareholders; maybe a downloadable episodic series to test the waters, perhaps the prequel to a full-sized game.
Or something. Either way, reboots don't have to suck. Just look at XCOM: Enemy Unknown, or Fallout 3 for a mechanical (but not canonical) example.
"just end the series and move on"
In an ideal world, I'd agree. Capcom have managed to do that successfully before, such as Dead Rising etc.
Sadly, we all know that everyone loves teh sequelz.
Agreed, hopefully analysing the original will help them do that!
Yeah, here's hoping it's the start of a more savvy Capcom who look at what made the original games tick while incorporating new ideas, rather than trying to please everyone in the entire world.
Yes it did, both in terms of sales and features (I still remember how badly 'trophies' were shoehorned in when they saw the success of achievements!).
HOWEVER, it then more than overtook the 360 in my opinion, both in terms of exclusives and games. I had an X360 in the first few years of last-gen, but once Sony's first-party studios were properly up to speed, I grabbed a PS3 because it was an exclusive beast.
I'd argue that SSZ is pretty great, actually, if you're a genre fan.
Crimson Dragon is horrendous, even at the free level it should have launched at. Loved every Panzer Dragoon game including Orta on original Xbox, and practically cried when I saw how badly they'd butchered it in terms of mission structure.
Yup. Don't get me wrong, I'll play it on Xbox One or PS4 if I have one by then (holding off for Uncharted!), but know plenty of people who'd benefit from a PC version.
Apparently the FOX Engine is crazy scalable, so PC release is kind of a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. No exclusive DLC mind.
Yeah, it always annoys me to see dedicated fans working hard in their own time and off their own bat on projects like these... then being shut down. Square could easily work with them, tacitly ignore them or even recognise the DEMAND and get involved!
To be honest I'm more annoyed about the extra Samus (unless it's a tacit admission that Other M exists in a totally different canon - wasn't it based on a manga or something?).
But... yeah, maybe four is a just a little bit much? Maybe? Even though FE: Awakening is my favourite game of 2013 hands-down, no question, Robin might be the bridge too far for me. the fact that you can choose between male and female skins is a nice touch, but seeing as my avatar was a gri...
Yeah, it should look fierce on PS4 too. I wonder if it could use the touchpad to move around scenery elements?
Yeah, hadn't quite thought about it like that! Bring on more 3rd party wheels, pedals... and then VR.
Aye. VR is bigger than one machine and one brand - to become an industry, it needs a few major players willing to push forward, and giving developers the security of knowing that there's plenty of options.
This is one of the most depressing and childish 'controversies' I've seen in years.
Timed exclusive content is a business arrangement. No-one is owed compensation. No-one is being abandoned. No-one is being mistreated or betrayed. It happens all the time, whether CoD map packs or downloadable indie games.
Loads of key Bungie staff stayed behind to keep making Halo games on Xbox. Bungie are now creating something totally new, with an entirely new a...
I have no words. Destiny isn't an MMO, it's an FPS with RPG elements with some innovative multiplayer, but MMO it aint.
Not a chance. A project like Morpheus takes years of pre-production, funding arrangements and minutiae just to get off the ground, let alone getting to functional working prototypes. Remember that Sony has been iterating on the HMZ and head mounted displays for years with this in tandem.
Mind you, they might well have held off on an announcement to see what the reception to the Rift was like. I love the Rift and reckon they'll actually need each other to succeed -- two pl...
Yeah, all we need now is the games. Sony actively bringing the device to developer conferences along with top brass like Yoshida and House (not just a couple of hired demonstrators) shows that they're serious about getting devs on board - a good sign if I've ever seen one!
Agreed, and I reckon that it's up to developers to make sure that any map/icon on the GamePad is clear and uncluttered enough to make sense of just with a quick glance. It's definitely possible to do - I find the MK8 map really useful on the last lap for example, even if it's just a quick peek to get a general idea about how spaced out the pack is.
Really detailed preview, nice. I'm seriously excited for Elite Dangerous, since as much as I enjoy MMO experiences, the ability to play the full game in singleplayer is a huge draw for me. I've backed Star Citizen too, but sometimes I just wanna unplug.
Erm, this news is several months old. From April. Including the trailer.
TBH I'd love a Resi 1-3 HD collection on one disc. With loads of unlockable series lore and a bestiary. That'd rock.
However, I'd prefer to see Capcom using this remaster as a way of letting go of that big stupid canon and starting afresh.
